The Bowie Mission
What Is the Purpose of the Bowie Mission?
The short answer is that the Bowie Mission exists to fulfill the scriptures found in Matthew 25: 35-40: “‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.' "Then the righteous will answer Him,‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ “The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’ ”
The Bowie Mission is under the direction of Southside's own David White. God never called on the civil government to take care of the widows and orphans and others in need but He did give that mission to His Church. Not only does the Bowie Mission help those with immediate needs but also seeks to equip people to prosper through a better understanding of what it means to have faith in God. In short, the Bowie Mission seeks to provide relief for immediate needs and at the same time wants to help set people on a road to a better life.
What Can the Bowie Mission Do for People With Needs?
The Mission provides food, clothing, help with utilities when funds permit (limited to once a year due to limited funds), help with money for life essential medications, and provides diapers, shoes and school supplies for children when possible. There is also a furniture warehouse that has furniture and appliances for those in need, as they are available.
In addition, the Bowie Mission is also a source for job listings (see website menu and also available at the Mission each Thursday). We also operate a food warehouse for the benefit of all faith based organizations helping those in need in Montague county.
Who Is eligible for Assistance?
In order to be eligible for assistance, the household must be located in Montague county. The head of the household must come in and fill out a household information sheet from which it will be determined what assistance, if any, can be given. Applicants should bring a picture identification and proof of address the first time they apply for assistance.
What Can You Do for the Bowie Mission?
There are many ways in which one can help the Bowie Mission. First, all of us need to pray for those with needs. When we find someone living in the county that has needs that can be met by the Bowie Mission we can direct them to the mission via this website if they have web access or to the mission itself.
For another thing, the Bowie Mission is staffed totally by volunteers. Not one person receives a salary from working at the mission. You can volunteer your time at local ministries. Another thing one can do is to organize a food drive. Or one can always donate foodstuffs and/or money to the mission.
If you are an employer with a job to be filled please contact the Bowie Mission to be placed on the job page of this website as well as the list of job openings posted at the mission.
Offer to teach or mentor someone in skills that can help someone improve their life. Or simply befriend a person with needs and bake them cookies, or mow their lawn for them if they are somehow disabled, or simply let them know that someone cares for them.
