Barbara is the worship leader at Southside Baptist Church in Bowie, Texas. She serves bi-vocationally, working throughout the week as an Educational Diagnostician with the Montague County Special Classes Cooperative. Her husband, Kenny, serves as a deacon at Southside. He also works in the education field as the Director of District Operations at the Region 9 Education Service Center. They have 2 children: Caleb and Colby. Barbara was saved in 1987, just 3 days prior to the start of her first year in college at Southwest Texas State University (now referred to as Texas State University). She immediately plugged into the Baptist Student Ministry on that campus and began serving there in various capacities. Her first Church staff positions were held while she attended SWT, serving as youth minister in Seguin, TX and Canyon Lake, TX. at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (San Antonio Campus). She served as the Associate Director of the Baptist Student Ministry at SWT for one year prior to moving to Fort Worth to continue her master’s program at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. She served as a team member on a Youth Led Revival Team that toured the state during the summer of 1993, prior to her moving to Fort Worth. (Southside Baptist was the last church her team was assigned to during that summer tour.) After that revival experience, Barbara was called to Southside to serve as the Minister of Music and Youth. She served in this capacity for 3 ½ years while completing her master’s degree. She and Kenny then moved to Chico, TX where they both were hired as school teachers. After 3 years in Chico, they moved back to Bowie and began serving again at Southside. Barbara assumed the role of Worship Leader in 2000. Typical worship services at Southside are blended, incorporating hymns, praise choruses, and contemporary Christian music in the services. The music ministry involves Christmas and Easter Cantatas as well as a Children’s Christmas program. Other opportunities to serve in this area include special music presentations during worship services (choir specials, solo, duet, trio, quartet, ensemble, instrumental, etc…).
